Medical Waste Disposal Council Bluffs, IA

Until 1852, the city of Council Bluff was known as Kanesville, Iowa. During the time the city was named Kanesville, it thrived on the Latter-day Saints movement. The town’s location on the Missouri River was particularly advantageous for the thousands of British converts who had postponed their migration to America until their headquarters in the West had been established. The town would soon struggle to provide the large number of immigrants with adequate food, shelter, and employment. This issue was helped by the California Gold Rush of 1849-1851, and resulted in the popularizing the outfitting town of Kanseville.

During the 1930’s, Council Bluff grew to be the country’s fifth largest railroad center. The railroads had helped the city grew into a central hub for grain storage and the massive grain elevators continue to mark the city’s skyline. Throughout the 20th century, the railroads would undergo reconstruction and caused the loss of many jobs for the residents of the Council Bluff region. Other industries in the city have since stepped up and employed thousands. Some of those companies are: Blue Star Foods, Dwafies Cereal, Frito-Lay, Georgie Porgie Cereal, Kimball Elevators, Mona Motor Oil, Monarch, and Woodward’s Candy.

Ensuring the best care for the residents of Council Bluff area are the healthcare facilities. What makes it difficult for theses healthcare facilities of Council Bluff to do that though, is having to balance between being financially stable and having reliable service. One of those factors that could greatly impact healthcare facilities is disposing of the medical waste that is produced. Medical waste is defined as any item that is saturated with bodily fluids. More specifically, it is any solid waste that is generated in the diagnosis, treatment, or immunization of a human.

Council Bluffs Little-Known Facts

By the late 20th century the city and region were suffering economic stagnation and a declining population, as they struggled to develop a new economy.
