Four Environmental Achievements in 2022

The four environmental achievements in 2022 are designed to help solve the many environmental issues the world currently faces. Big or small, it is essential to celebrate these kinds of achievements that would benefit the environment.

Four environmental achievements in 2022

The Rise of Renewable Energy

In the past few years, renewable energy has grown more than 10% in 2022, which has led to a reduction in global CO2 production from the electricity sector overall. According to an Ember analysis, Renewables saved 230 million tons of C02 emissions at the beginning of 2022. C02 emissions need to be reduced as they can slow climate change and improve air quality, preventing deaths due to air pollution. In terms of the environment, it will help slow the rising sea levels and the melting of Arctic glaciers and lessen the extreme seasonal shift. According to New Era Land Services LLC, the year-on-year growth in wind and solar prevented global power sector emissions from rising by 4% in 2022.

Increase in Recycled and Plant-Based Toys

Companies like Mattel, responsible for Fisher Price Toys and Barbie products, are starting to use 100% recycled, recyclable, or bio-based plastics in all of their toys and packaging by 2030. In addition, Mattel has launched a Playback program that allows parents to print out free shipping labels and use them to send old Barbie dolls, Mega Bloks, and Matchbox cars to collection sites for recycling and reuse. While this may seem like a minor problem, this is a huge step in reducing the amount of plastic pollution in the environment.

The comeback of Endangered Animals

According to the World Wildlife Fund, at least 10,000 species go extinct every year. While that number continues to rise, the good news is that with the help of legal protection, wildlife protection areas, and species reintroductions, 50 endangered species are returning. This includes loggerhead turtles, humpback whales, bison, and wolverines. This is an excellent start to reducing the extinction and endangerment rate each year.

Patagonia Gives Away Company to Fight Climate Crisis

In September 2022, Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard gave away his ownership and dedicated all of the company’s profits to climate crisis projects and organizations to help protect wildlife and fight the climate crisis. According to the New York Times, Patagonia is worth about $3 billion and is now owned by a climate-focused trust and a group of nonprofit organizations called the Patagonia Purpose Trust and the Holdfast Collective. This is a massive step in the fight against the world’s climate crisis and will make a significant difference in the effectiveness of the new efforts taken by the various nonprofit organizations that the fund went towards.
