Mississippi is named for its majestic river, lining its western border and pouring through the Delta into the Gulf of Mexico. The Mississippi Delta is the birthplace of the Blues, an art form original to this culture and to America, and because of its unique history and culture, often called “the most Southern place on earth”. People work hard here to make their businesses fly, whether for the agriculture of cotton and soybean, balancing the needs of the environment with the needs of the lumber crop, or raising catfish in aquaculture farms. Mainly, to know Mississippi is to know the history of the United States, in all its variances. MedPro is delighted to provide Mississippi medical waste disposal and biohazard disposal services in this beautiful state.
From the fertile Delta land and extreme poverty, with guitar, harmonica and voice, soulful and astonishing Blues musicians have raged, pondered, wept and celebrated for hundreds of years. BB King and Muddy Waters achieved commercial success from their work, and they stand among thousands of other artists who did not, and many of the older and younger generations of blues artists still live in the Delta, where to be part of this tradition, you call the Delta your home. The distinctive tonalities of blues music were certainly born from songs of sorrow, sung by black slaves, and later by black soldiers during the Civil War, often characterized at the time by their “half-dissonant” musical qualities. Filled with the nuances and polyrhythms from many tribes in African culture, the creators of the blues used these as well as American folk songs and instruments to fashion their unique and soulful sounds. Some of the early blues musicians were also preachers; others lived hard lives on the road or traveled through the Delta playing juke joints, learning from mentors, sharing with friends, practicing their craft. Finding the joy of music during hard times is what they do.
In 2005, much of the region, and Mississippi, got whacked by Hurricane Katrina in a bad way. The massive Category Three left 49 state counties at Federal Disaster Areas, at least 225 state residents dead, and millions uprooted and affected by disaster. More blues were born from Katrina, and it has taken years for citizens to recover from the destructive aftermath.
Most local health care folk worked against tremendous odds during Katrina, delivering on-the-spot care during and after the storm. Out of power and low on resources, doctors and nurses in hard-hit cities like Biloxi remember helping patients in the interior hallways of buildings, as the strong winds and rains took out exterior chunks of their hospitals. Afterwards, as the region struggled to recover, outpourings of humanitarian aid, remarkable volunteers, loss and frustration, and slow restoration to a new normal, changed lives, values, spirits. Many of those affected report that getting back to basics was the big lesson taught by the storm.

So, how do you know if your facility is producing medical waste? The DEQ definition of medical waste is defined as all waste generated in direct patient care or in diagnostic or research areas that is non-infectious but aesthetically repugnant if found in the environment. Also, according to the Medical Waste Tracking Act of 1988 from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), medical waste is generated in the diagnosis, treatment, or immunization of human beings or animals, in research pertaining thereto, or in the production or testing of biologicals. This might include equipment, instruments, utensils or fomites of a disposable nature from the rooms of patients, animal or human, who have been diagnosed as having a communicable disease, or, laboratory wastes such as pathological specimens.
Any of these medical waste producing scenarios could take place in an operating room, an emergency room, a dental practice, a home health care facility, a clinic office, or at an on-site school, casino or other company nurse’s office. Are you aware of what procedures are taking place in your business that generate medical waste? Do an intelligent and clear assessment, and figure out if need medical waste disposal services.
