The city is home to more than 100 parks and a number of excellent recreational facilities that include the Las Cruces Regional Aquatic Center, Frank O’Brien Papen Center, and Meerscheidt Recreation Center. Anglers will find excellent trout fishing at area mountain lakes such as Snow Lake and Bonito Lake, while Elephant Butte Lake and Caballo Lake are excellent sources for catfish, walleye, bass, crappie, and northern pike.

Golfers can hit the links at any of several area golf courses that include Sonoma Ranch Golf Course and Picacho Hills Golf Course, both 18-hole regulation courses located within the city. Public courses include the Red Hawk Golf Course, rated “Best in State” by Golf Digest for 2013-2015, and NMSU Golf Course, located on the campus of New Mexico State University.
