The construction of the railroad system and boat traffic catapulted Decatur’s economic system in the early 19th century. Many Fortune 500 companies took advantage of Decatur’s location, opening their plants due to the convenient location. Some notable people from the Decatur area include: Philip Rivers, Joseph Abbott, and Robin Henderson.

The city of Decatur has a lot of events and activities for their residents to take advantage of. The humid subtropical climate allows for beautiful summertime activities. The residents take part in annual fishing and boating outings on the Tennessee River. Bassmaster Elite Series is an annual fishing tournament hosted on Wheeler Lake in Decatur. The 4-day tournament is concluded with a fish weigh-in and an award ceremony. Some other outdoor activities enjoyed by the residents include hunting and hiking through the Wheeler Wildlife. The city of Decatur is very fortunate to have a top-tier healthcare system servicing the residents of Morgan County.

The nationally recognized healthcare system of Decatur is dedicated to providing the best care to the residents. These facilities include: Decatur Morgan General, Parkway Medical Center, The Pavillion for Women and Children. The city of Decatur is also home to many independent and family owned practices. The one thing these facilities in Decatur have in common is the medical waste that is produced each year. Medical waste is broadly defined as any item that comes into contact with bodily fluids. Specifically, it is any solid waste that is generated in the diagnosis, treatment, or immunization of a human. It is essential these facilities handle this waste with extreme caution, it can be very dangerous for the patients and the surrounding community.

MedPro Disposal specializes in the medical waste removal process for the city of Decatur. One benefit we offer to the healthcare facilities in Decatur is our ability to create a customized plan to accommodate your medical waste needs. There are only two pieces of information needed in order to start the process. The two pieces include: how much medical waste is being produced and how often the waste is picked up. Once those two pieces of information are obtained our team can start to create a tailored plan for your facility. The process is fairly easy, once the frequency and volume is determined your facility will be assigned a specific pick up schedule. Your practice will be provided with red-lined cardboard boxes that accumulate the medical waste. On your scheduled pick up date the boxes will be picked up and you will be provided with new boxes to restart the process. Here at MedPro Disposal we understand changes happen frequently. Therefore, if your medical waste accumulation changes we are more than welcome to accommodate your requests.

Another service MedPro Disposal offers for the healthcare practices in the Decatur area include our unique pharmaceutical mail back program. Your facility would be provided with a 2.5 OTC/Rx or controlled bucket. The bucket would collect expired and unneeded medications for your facility. The disposal process is very simple; the bucket comes equipped with a pre-paid return label for when the bucket has reached capacity. The disposal program is compliant on all state and federal levels and is a great solution for those unwanted medications. It is very important these medications don’t end up in Decatur’s landfills and water systems. The mail back program is very cost-effective and a great way to prevent the illegal diversion of controlled substances.

An additional popular service offered in the Decatur area is our online OSHA training. Our compliance program allows your employee to receive training on how to properly dispose of your medical waste. The online portal is accessible at anywhere and at any time. The convenience of training your employees on their own time is very cost-effective and efficient. Some benefits to our online OSHA training include: simplified safety data sheets, interactive multimedia training, and safety audits. The training consists of short online educational videos. After each section are short multiple choice questions to ensure your employees are retaining the information. Your employee will be awarded with a certificate upon completion of the course. The certificate can be printed out for easy filing purposes, but will also remain accessible on the online portal.

Decatur Little-Known Facts

Because of its location on the Tennessee River at the strategically important crossing of two major railroads, Decatur was the site of several encounters during the American Civil War. When the Union army occupied the city early in the war, the commanding general ordered all but four buildings in the town destroyed. Bricks from some of the churches in town were used to build stoves and chimneys for the buildings that housed soldiers. The four buildings that remained (and are still standing) are the Old State Bank, the Dancy-Polk House, the Todd House, and the Burleson-Hinds-McEntire House. After the Union victory in the Battle of Atlanta, a Confederate army under the command of Gen. John Bell Hood briefly sparred with a vastly outmanned garrison during the 1864 Battle of Decatur, when Decatur was referred to as A Tough Nut To Crack.
