A part of the Huntington-Ashland Metropolitan area, Hurricane, West Virginia has a population of 6,284 as of 2010. The city was named after Hurricane Creek, which received its name from a group of bent trees at the river mouth, suggesting that the site had been struck by a hurricane. The town itself can be traced back to 1873, when a railroad ran through the town and a depot was constructed. In the early 1900s, Hurricane was a trading town for tobacco growers and other farmers. Keeping the residents of Hurricane healthy is the job of CAMC Teays Valley Hospital, which provides excellent care. But whose job is it to take care of the medical waste generated from this care? That’s where MedPro Disposal comes in, the nation’s premier medical waste hauler. Medical waste cannot go in the normal trash stream because it is often contaminated with blood, which contains blood-borne pathogens. If an individual were to come into unprotected contact with these pathogens, they have the potential of causing serious health issues. That’s why MedPro is devoted to the safe and proper disposal of medical waste, keeping the residents and environment of Hurricane healthy. Medical waste can be many things, including used sharps, gauze pads, soaked bandages, IV bags, and even human tissue. After the use of these items on a patient, it is essential that they are disposed of immediately in the proper medical waste container, in order to prevent the spread of pathogens. This prevents the contamination of sterile environments, which, according the CDC, resulted in 17 million cases of infections in hospitals during 2011. Determining what needs to go in the medical waste container and what can go in the normal trash bucket is easy as a MedPro customer. We will send your facility a poster that can be hung near the medical waste container, and clearly outlines what types of waste need to go in the container, and what is safe to dispose of in the normal trash bucket. Segregating waste has never been easier! Along with our award-winning medical waste removal service, we also offer pharmaceutical disposal! Our simple, pharmaceutical mail-back program is designed to be extremely easy for our customers to use. MedPro Disposal will send your facility a 2.5-gallon bucket that is used for unused or expired medications. Once that bucket reaches capacity, attach the included, pre-paid shipping label and send it off to our disposal facility. When this occurs, your facility receives a brand new bucket that is ready to be filled up again! The best part about this program is that it is only a per-bucket fee. Gone are the days of paying monthly for a service you may not even be using every month. Not only do we offer disposal services, but MedPro also offers OSHA compliance training. Our online OSHA portal is the most robust, cost-efficient method of training your entire workforce to be OSHA compliant. It allows administrator access to assign job-specific testing to an individual, or group if desired. Once an employee completes their training, their certificate of completion is stored in a centralized tab on the online portal, making it extremely easy to pull up and reference, if necessary. This program removes the need to shut down for half a day and hire an outside consultant to come in and train all of your employees. That costs time and money, which is not good for a business’s bottom line.
MedPro Disposal is dedicated to saving your practice money in any way we can. Whether that be medical waste disposal, pharmaceutical disposal, or even OSHA compliance, we will work to save you money, which can then be reinvested into your business to provide better care for your patients. Our customers in the Hurricane area consistently see savings in the 20-40% range compared to their previous waste haulers, and even more when they bundle all of our services! Let MedPro Disposal handle your medical waste needs, all while putting your hard-earned money back in your pocket. You should never have to overpay for a required service!
A party of surveyors, commissioned by George Washington, traveled down the Kanawha River. As the sun was slowly rising, cutting through the fog of this early spring day, they noted in their journal that all the trees at the mouth of the creek were bent in the same direction. and they called the location the place of the hurricane. The creek became known as Hurricane Creek because of this phenomenon, and by 1811, according to early Virginia maps, the town of Hurricane Bridge was located where Route 34 now crosses the creek near Route 60.
